RESPONSIVE DASHBOARD DESIGN FOR AIR COMPRESSOR MANAGEMENT

Project Overview
Industrial Systems Management is an early stage startup developing a system that uses machine learning and AI to monitor air compressor systems and predict future issues and maintenance needs. Their target users are both the factory workers using air compressors and the air compressor distributors. Their product is a dashboard that enables the workers to easily monitor their systems but also alerts the distributor of any required maintenance. I worked with a team of seven other designers to develop this product.
MY ROLE
I did research on dashboards and information architecture and designed screens throughout the Lo-Fi and Hi-Fi stages for desktop and mobile sizes. I also took leadership over the Hi-Fi stage, which included leading a design principles workshop and creating a style guide.
THE CHALLENGE
Design an MVP for a responsive dashboard for air compressor monitoring that can be used by both the end user and the customer.
TIMELINE
12 weeks

Summary
Through research and user testing, we identified the key metrics we needed to display and recognized that a maintenance alert system was critical for the distributor to easily manage and maintain his systems. With this in mind, we designed an application that consisted of a dashboard that tracks all key metrics and monitors system health and an alert log that organizes alerts by urgency and notifies the distributor of upcoming maintenance needs based off of the machine learning. We also designed a login flow and settings pages to complete the application and make a comprehensive product.
In regards to the aesthetics, we decided on the design principles we thought best suited the company and purpose of the product and developed a style guide that informed all of our design decisions. We then went through many iterations and adapted and changed things as we went until we developed the final MVP.
